Every church has areas of strength, areas of strain, and areas that need renewed attention. The Small Church MRI is designed to help you slow down, take an honest look at your ministry, and identify where your church may be healthy, stuck, stretched, or under-supported.


This assessment is not meant to create shame or compare your church to someone else’s. It is a practical reflection tool built for small-church realities — limited staff, limited resources, faithful people, and the real pressure of leading ministry week after week.


As you answer each question, be honest about where your church is right now. The goal is not to produce a perfect score. The goal is to gain clarity, recognize patterns, and identify one or two next steps that could help your church become healthier.

You have an inspirational mission statement that everyone has memorized and talks about regularly.
You work together to operate in the same direction, with the same cadence so that you are consistently aligned and get traction all areas of ministry.
Your staff and volunteers clearly understand their role, what they’re working towards, and how they are specifically helping the ministry to get there.
You have an excellent staff and volunteer retention rate.
You feel connected to the “why” of your calling. Your ministry mission reads like a counter attack against an injustice in the world.
